Parents who dialed down on protecting kids in the Fort Vancouver Regional Library District for 3 years never quit, never gave up, have come into their own quiet, confident sense of power, thus some balancing on the board seems to be emerging.
Library executive director, Amelia Shelly, at the Ridgefield Library board meeting did well in presenting about bricks, motor and budgets. The library board meeting the month before in Woodland, Washington, Amelia responded to the question whether she self-educated on child abuse, and did she now have an opinion now, on the Miss Frizzle and the Magic School Bus, so-called Drag Queen guy "Clare Apparently" doing oral sex on a dildo coming out of the school bus then simulating anal sex with the school bus? Amelia said, "No".
One or two on the library board or their staff in drafting "Fort Vancouver Regional Library District Trustee Ethics and Responsibilities" policy had inserted language directed at parents trying to protect kids from pedophiles. It was censorship language. Other board members caught it and corrected the error.
Trustees responsibilities include "Select, hire, and evaluate a competent and qualified Executive Director".
A public comment was made from a former board member of the NASW (National Association of Social Workers) who had experience in hiring and evaluating a director in her time on the board. She acknowledged Amelia Shelley's abilities related to bricks, motors and budgets, then highlighted Amelia's lack of qualifications, education, training, including self-education, and an interest on the topic of keeping children safe from sex offenders.
An expert in child abuse was able to provide expert testimony that sex offenders go where no one asks the questions, thus Amelia Shelly's lack of interest in the topic, and her yet still full out support of the Miss Frizzle guy, is a signal to sex offenders the library is a place to go to act on that which is in them that wants to violate children.
Gary Wilson, a father, gave an up-date of what has been in the news in San Francisco in June 2022:
"Drag queen who sings 'all the kids who look up to me can s*ck my d*ck' hosts story time at SF area library":
When someone on Clare Apparently's YouTube channel complained about the Miss Frizzle video, he (Devin Crosland) laughed, shared his intent was to "disturb".
After three years of parental concern about child safety related to the library, it seems unlikely, director Shelly will all of a sudden have an interest in that topic.
An era of more parental oversight may have begun?
Libraries are vital to civilization and provide wonderful moments of getting lost in the wonder of books. They should have that, and have adults who will protect them from sex offenders.
