Loretta Smith makes her Move Early for a Yet to be Decided on New Congressional District In Oregon

Loretta Smith, June 25, 2021, announces her run for a yet non-existent Oregon Congressional District Seat

Are any parties or candidates even thinking about the non-affiliated, the 2nd biggest party in Oregon?

Oregon is a state of three parties—Democratic, Republican, and a growing share of non-affiliated voters scholars credit with diversifying state's politics and shrinking primary turnout.”

2020-2021 the year of election integrity audits, calls for investigations and voters questioning whether their votes count. The voter is not alone. Candidates from both major parties raise the election integrity issue as well.

Candidate Smith, a Democrat, who June 25, 2021, announced her run for a Congressional seat that does not yet exist, requested an audit in August 2020 in her bid for Multnomah County commissioner. Smith campaign noticed 11,000 voters all had January first birthdays. Fourteen thousand voters casting a vote for the first time in five years appeared to the campaign as something to investigate. Multnomah County Election officials preliminary review of the matter suggested no errors in the 5000+ votes questioned by the campaign.

On the Republican side of the fence an Oregon delegation toured the Arizona audit June 22, 2021. “An Oregon Delegation of Deschutes County Commissioner Phil Henderson and Deschutes Republican Party Committee Chairman Mark Knowles took a close look at this process as a model for election integrity.”

“Henderson: We’re from a county, Deschutes County, Oregon which has about 200,000 people, and it’s the seventh largest in Oregon and we’re what I call on the cusp between, Republican and Democrat really a split County and so we’re interested in the integrity of elections there in Oregon.”

“Oregon House Democrats will redraw their districts hand-in-hand with Republicans. The next decade of Oregon politics could depend on its fastest-growing group of voters without a capital letter next to their names.”

“In May 2021 non-affiliated voters accounted for 38% of Oregon voters or 963,421 people. That would make them the second biggest party in Oregon, right behind Democrats who account for 40% of voters. Republicans lag, with 29% of the state's voters or 737,794 people.”

The major and the minor parties in Oregon have shown no interest to-date about the NAV population of voters. None of the parties expressed interest in pondering who the NAVs are, what might the NAVs be telling Oregon or inviting NAVs to events.

None of the parties, major or minor, seem to process the information that 2016 was the year of disgust with both political parties thus the outliers sparked the most interest that year. Donald J. Trump and Bernie Sanders.

In a CPAC poll last week for the 2024 presidential race President Trump polled 70% to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis 21%.  Without Trump in the poll DeSantis garnered 68% of the vote.

The shutdowns, the lockdowns, masking, distancing, produced an interest in self-education, leading to Oregonians studying the US Constitution, Oregon Constitution, Federal laws, and Oregon State laws, learning the differentiation between a rule and a law.

What will the new Congressional District look like?
